July 22, 2017 6:00pm
Thanks for everyone who made the 2nd Annual Bend Classic Mile a huge success. We had a near sub 4:00 mile, 38 sub 5:00 miles and a whopping 75 sub 6:00 milers on a hot summer’s night on the downtown streets of Bend. We have one fast town.
Welcome to Bend’s only downtown mile! With 14,000 spectators, the Bend Classic Mile is filled with excitement, taking place in the 15 minutes between the Cascade Cycling Classic Pro 1-2 Women and Pro 1 Men Twilight Crits.
The course: one mile USATF-sanctioned (certification number OR16009LB) loop in downtown Bend, on Bond, Greenwood, Wall, Idaho, and Georgia. View the course map here. Due to the tight time frame we have between bike races, all runners must be able to complete the mile in under 9 minutes. Race officials may direct off the course anyone who does not meet this pace.
Open Registration: $25 per person. Register online here or print the paper adult registration form or minor registration form (also available at FootZone) and drop off or mail to 842 NW Wall St, Ste 2, Bend, OR 97703. Online registration closes at 12 noon on Friday, 7/21. In-store registration is available until 3pm on Saturday, 7/22.
Elite Runner Registration: Runners interested in elite entry should email Thomas Morgan for the registration procedure. Time standards for elite seeding and complimentary race entry are as follows. Youth and Masters performances may receive special consideration. You may be asked for race verification before approval.
High School Elite Registration: Standards are as follows: Girls 1500 5:10, Boys 1500 4:20. Those interested in elite seeding should email Thomas Morgan to register.
The purse: Total prize purse of $5,000 courtesy of Hoka One One® will be distributed six deep for men and women: $1,000, $500, $400, $300, $200, and $100.
Packet Pickup: At FootZone, 842 NW Wall St, Bend, OR 97703, Friday, July 21 4-7 pm and Saturday, July 22 from noon to 5 pm. Please bring ID as we will be carding for the beer we’ll have at the finish line. Folks who registered prior to 7/12 will be able to pick up their shirts at packet pickup. The rest will be available a week or so after the race and an email notification will be sent when shirts are ready for pickup.
Bibs and Hip Numbers: You will be given one bib and one hip number at packet pickup. The bib should be pinned to your clothing on your chest. The hip sticker should be stuck to the outside of your RIGHT HIP. Like so.
Race Start: There is no access to the race course prior to the race. Due to the bicycle crit and crowds, please plan plenty of time to get to the correct side of the street prior to race start. You should be in the pre-start area on the east side of Wall Street across from the Downtown Bend Library by 6:00 pm (see map). Look for the Hoka car and tent! The race will start shortly after 6pm (as soon as the course is clear of bikes).
Race Finish: When you cross the finish line, keep moving down Wall and take a right onto Minnesota. We need everyone off of Wall as quickly as possible. And there are sandwiches, water, and beer awaiting you on Minnesota! This is for racers only. Your bib gets you entry and re-entry so don’t toss it!
Bag drop: Located in the Minnesota Ave post-race area. We will have boxes for your belongings while you run. These boxes will not be monitored so valuables should perhaps be left at home.
Parking: Allow yourself plenty of time to find parking as it will be scarce and may be far from the start line. We recommend using alternate means of transportation or carpooling.
Lodging: There are several big events happening in the Bend area this weekend. We suggest that you book early. Check out Visit Bend for suggestions. If you are an elite runner in need of housing while in town for the event, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. If you would like to host a runner, please email email@example.com or call FootZone at 541.317.3568.
Elite runner travel: Modest travel stipends may be available. Early contact is encouraged.
Volunteers: We need you! Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re interested in volunteering.
